  • Great movie. I’ve never seen a movie where black soldiers were featured. It really showed the character of the black men that wanted to have a part in the fight against slavery.
    Also, the movie didn’t make the South look too bad. I’m from the South and I have that southern pride, but I also know that thousands of dirt poor white men died for really just a few very rich slave owners.
    I visited a plantation outside of New Orleans and I asked how many slaves were on this property. There were 900. Slavery is, was, and always will be an abomination to men and to God.

  • to all the members of the 54th, who demonstrated bravery, equality, freedom, and patriotism. You did not only demonstrate what a colored troops could achieve but demonstrated the devotion to your cause. You stood above all odds and your meaning goes into the colored regiments of the armed forces up to this day. Thank you and may you all be blessed by God and be watching over us in heaven. Amen
