Sesame Street Film Finds A Director in Jonathan Krisel

Given that the show first aired in 1969 and has been providing felt-powered educational songs and lessons to children ever since, it’s perhaps surprising that a big screen Sesame Street has only been fully in development for the last few years. Now it has a director in Portlandia regular shot-caller Jonathan Krisel.

While there have been spin-offs focused on different characters, this appears to be the first time the entire gang will get their due in a movie, with Shawn Levy as one of the producers and Chris Galletta responsible for the most recent script draft.

Plot details are being kept quiet for now, though Variety has heard it will be a musical. Which seems about right given the amount of tunes usually found in the show.

All involved will be hoping for success more along the lines of The Muppets and not the soft crash experienced by The Happytime Murders this year…
