  • Among the best of all time, this film makes b+w photography blaze with subtlety. Color would have been a distraction. Even in ruins, Vienna never looked better. And what a story! The harmless ever-charming con man turns out to be a mass murderer of children. The faithful lover knows that once you love, no new info changes your feeling. And that long walk of hers, out of our life, has been copied but never equaled. One of the best!

  • Wonderful film and possibly my most favorite starring Welles, even over the much lauded Citizen Kane. I know Orson often found commercial success trying, but he is wonderful in this very brief appearances and good friend Joe Cotten just stole each and every scene he was in.

  • Tedious at times, although the Cotten-Welles combo is somewhat interesting. Cat & Mouse a bit overplayed but the nod to surrealism with the balloon man, odd kid, and fingers through the grate make this film somewhat palatable.

    • Mother of God, how can you describe such a master piece as “palatable”. Amazing great movie, maybe one of the best. You need help…
